Love Island uncertainty as ITV boss admits hunt to find new villa is still ongoing

Love Island will have a new look when it returns this year, the show's bosses have confirmed, with the iconic villa being axed.

The ITV2 reality series is a big hit, usually over the summer, and producers are promising a better than ever series when it returns again but have admitted that they have nowhere to go at the moment.

Kevin Lygo, ITV's managing director of media and entertainment, told PA Media that they are wanting a new Majorcan mansion for the eighth series but has said he is expecting the series to be "great" no matter where they find to house the Islanders who will be looking for love.

While this is a chance to give the show a new setting, Kevin did explain that there were planning to move on anyway as they only rented the property.

He said: "We didn't own it. We rented it and we are choosing a new house for this summer so that is all secrecy.

"It is going to be marvellous. Yes, it is going to be in Mallorca. It is going to be a great one [series]."

The Sun previously reported that the new property will have a new backdrop, with a number of locations being considered with the likelihood that they will be "moving to the foothills of mountains, by a lake or to the coast" of the Balearic island.

The first two series of the show were filmed in southern Majorca's Santanyi region, while every series since has been at a villa in the north-east of the island, at Sant Llorenç des Cardassar.

A source told The Sun: " ITV bosses think this is the right moment to refresh this element of the show, just as they did in series three back in 2017.

"Bosses are conscious of the fact that this is also an opportunity to consider all the new elements they could introduce to enhance the show even further.

"For fans of Love Island this is huge news and they'll be eager to see what the new villa looks like and how much it could change the show."

It is expected that the new property will still have an extensive swimming pool and a firepit, which has become synonymous with the most dramatic dumpings in the show's history.
