Love Island to go ahead this summer despite calls to cancel show

Love Island 2019 will be broadcast this summer despite calls to cancel it following the news of The Jeremy Kyle Show being axed following the death of one of its guests.

Steven Dymond, 63, was found dead just a week after his appearance on Jeremy Kyle, prompting ITV to take the show off the air.

It is the first suspected suicide linked to the show in 14 years. However, there have been two deaths on Love Island linked to suicide in the past year.

Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis both died after appearing on Love Island 2016 and 2017 respectively, sparking calls from the public to cancel the programme.

Now fans of the show have taken to social media to question why Love Island hasn't been taken off air as well after two former contestant's died, reports DevonLive.

One twitter user said: "If jeremykyle is taken off the air then why hasn't loveisland been taken off yet after 2 people who have appeared on the show have taken their own lives why is that still going?"

Another said: "If Jeremy Kyle is going to be taken off the air, so should Love Island"

One added: "If we are going to cancel  ITVJeremyKyle  you 100% need to cancel LoveIsland any death/suicide is an absolute tragedy and my heart goes out to all the families and friends who have lost loved ones, however, I’m very confused Love Island is allowed to continue."

Katie Hopkins also waded in on the topic by posting statistics of both shows side by side, comparing the number of episodes versus the number of deaths from each.

She posted to her 934.8k followers: "Jeremy Kyle Show 3320 episodes. 16 series. 1 death – suspected suicide. ITV pull show. Mass hysteria. The mob mobilises.

"Love Island 148 episodes. 4 series. 2 deaths – suspected suicide. ‘ITV celebrate success. Most watched non-terrestrial program. 2019 promo underway."
