Love Island star to take step back from showbiz to ‘finish what he started’

Love Island star Tyler Cruickshank has announced he is taking a step back from showbiz life to complete his education and train as a solicitor, saying it is time to “finish what [he] started.”

The 26-year-old was working as an estate agent when he appeared on the ITV dating show in 2021 and eventually placed fourth with partner Kaz Kamwi. His time in the villa gave him fame and influencer status but he has now made a dramatic U-turn having decided to return to education.

Tyler took to Instagram on Tuesday to announce the news, saying: “So, as some of you will already know, I’ve wanted to go back and finish my studies for a while now. Law is something I’m extremely passionate about and I have always said one day I would want to go back to complete what I started.

“Well, that time has come - I’m proud to announce that I’m partnering with @barbri_sqe to embark on my SQE training. I’m super excited about this new chapter and can’t wait to share my journey with you all!”

The SQE – Solicitors Qualifying Examination – is an assessment the reality star will have to complete to prove his legal skills and must be completed in order to become a qualified solicitor. Tyler's Instagram followers were quick to send words of support to the reality star.

Fellow 2021 islander Brett Staniland said: “Class mate. All the best.”

Liam Reardon, who won the series with girlfriend Millie Court, said: “Yes bro go on.”

Fans also shared how they were “proud” and “behind” the star, telling him to “smash it.”

Tyler and Kaz made it all the way to the finale of the 2021 series but confirmed they had called time on their relationship in December last year. Tyler blamed the “pressure to be perfect” for their split and said online criticism had pushed them over the edge after they left the villa.
