Love Island star arrested on sexual assault and stalking allegations

A Love Island star has been arrested on allegations of sexual assault, stalking and coercive control after flying into the UK.

Police detained the former contestant, who is in his 20s, as he arrived at Gatwick Airport following a complaint from a woman.

The man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is also accused of criminal damage, assault by beating and threats of "revenge porn" against his alleged victim.

ITV bosses are aware of the investigation into the former Islander, who is not connected to the current series.

He has been released on bail.

The arrest comes after spin-off show Love Island: All Stars, hosted by Maya Jama, began its third series on Thursday.

A source told The Sun: "These incredibly serious allegations are the last thing the show and ITV need given all the problems Love Island has faced in the past.

"The network bosses will make sure they keep this guy away from the show, and any links to ITV, if any of this is proven.

"We know the police are taking this very seriously."

The Met Police confirmed they launched an investigation on Saturday, November 15 and arrested the man at Gatwick 12 days later.

A spokesman said: "He was arrested on suspicion of multiple offences, including sexual assault, stalking, criminal damage and assault.

"A woman has been offered specialist support by officers."

In a separate case, it was revealed last week that a female Love Islander's boyfriend has been arrested on suspicion of stalking.

The show has been plagued by controversy during its 11-year history, with two contestants having taken their own lives after appearing.

There have been complaints of abusive behaviour against female contestants and allegations of failure to support islanders' mental health after filming ends.

Sophie Gradon, 32, a contestant in 2016, took her life in 2018.

Mike Thalassitis, 26, a contestant in 2017, killed himself in 2019.
