Love Island sparks Ofcom complaints from viewers over contestant Ollie Williams and Aladdin comment

It's show that many people have an opinion on and it hasn't taken long for the new series to ruffle feathers, with its launch episode attracting close to 300 complaints from angry viewers.

The hit ITV2 programme's first ever winter series kick off on Sunday night, with the new Love Island lineup heading to their luxury home - a £5.3 million South African villa.

Among the lineup is Ollie Williams and it is his inclusion on the show that has prompted the majority of complaints to Ofcom. Some 231 people had contacted the broadcasting regulator at the time of writing, angry that the 23-year-old is still in the lineup after pictures of him posing with dead animals were shared online.

Ollie is director of hunting business Sporting Agency, which organises ‘tailor-made hunting trips to South Africa and other destinations’ and a now deleted Instagram image showed him proudly posing next to a dead bull.

Furious fans of the show have also taken to Twitter to vent their anger about him being on Love Island. One ranted "Ollie better be the first one out of love island if he’s sat there shooting CRITICALLY endangered & partially extinct animals & have his own hunting company," and, in agreement someone else tweeted "Get Ollie Williams off Love Island before it begins, no-one wants to watch someone who kills endangered animals for trophy pictures."

The other moment from Love Island's launch episode that rubbed some viewers up the wrong way was Siânnise Fudge comparing Nas Majeed, the only Asian islander, to Aladdin.

Siânnise, 25, remarked: ‘He’s lovely. As well, I love Princess Jasmine and he kind of looks like Aladdin.’ In her VT, Siânnise said: ‘My friends would describe me as the Princess Jasmine of Bristol’, and when asked what her type on paper was, she said: ‘Tall, dark and handsome – I’m after my own Aladdin, I guess.’
