Love Island sparks new ‘race row’ as four black islanders dumped from villa first

Love Island has become embroiled in a ‘race row’ on the ITV2 dating show, after Amber Beckford and Ikenna Ekwonna became the latest contestants to be dumped from the villa.

In Tuesday night’s explosive episode of Love Island, the contestants discovered the results of the latest savage public vote.

The boys with the lowest votes were Ikenna, Jay and Andrew, while the three girls were Ekin-Su, Tasha and Amber.

In the dramatic scenes as night fell, the islanders gathered around the firepit to hear their fate after receiving a text asking them to take their places.

It was then revealed the public had been voting for their favourite girl and boy in the villa and those with the fewest votes were at risk of being dumped from the island on Monday evening.

But as Ikenna and Amber were announced as the axed islanders and returned to the villa to pack their bags, numerous viewers slammed the show for its ‘race problem’.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: “ ITV really said they’re gonna fix their race problem by sending 4 Black people out back to back…”

“Hope the producers have more black people coming in because how is it just 2 people now,” a second fan wrote.

“Love Island kicking off 4 black people back to back is a bit sus but okay,” said another ITV2 fan.

Another added: “This vote seems very anti-black.”

While a fellow fan remarked: “Nah some racist s**t going on in love island right now with the votes.”

"Is no one questioning why a white person hasn't left yet? Y'all really see black people as undesirable and it shows absolutely disgusting," said another.

This comes after the first two islanders axed from the villa were Afia Tonkmor, a 25-year-old lounge host from London, and Remi Lambert, a Manchester rapper and model.

Following his exit from the villa, Remi admitted it was “gutting” to have left so soon.

He said: “I wish I could stay longer to get to know Indiyah and Danica mostly. At the same time, I feel like it was my time to leave. I was getting mixed signals and I wasn’t getting a clear answer from the girls.”

It appears Remi was fine following the interview, as he posted to his Instagram Story: "Grateful for all the support from yous all. It's not easy being in there. I tried my best."

Love Island airs every night at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub.
