Love Island sparks 1,500 Ofcom complaints due to new arrival Danny Bibby

Love Island viewers have hit out after the casting of new arrival Danny Bibby.

Ofcom has received more than 1,500 complaints about the new bombshell's arrival in the villa.

The 25-year-old, from Manchester, entered the Spanish villa on Friday.

And since then fans of the ITV2 show have called for him to be removed, The Mirror reports.

It comes after social media users found an old post where Danny used the N-word back in 2019.

After it emerged, ITV released a statement from Danny via the villa which read: "I'd like to take the time to apologise to anyone that may have taken offence to my inappropriate remark."

He continued: “I never meant anything malicious by this comment at all. I am not a racist person and it's unacceptable language and ignorant.

“I meant no offence and feel like I have really learnt from my mistakes and will never use that word again. I am a kind loving person and hopefully you get to see that in the show."

Danny’s father Richard had previously said in a statement released through ITV: "Danny does not have a racist bone in his body and there were no racist intentions to this post.”

Regarding the episode on July 15, in which Danny entered the villa, there were 1,081 complaints to Ofcom.

The show was hit by another 426 for the episode on July 18.

One viewer tweeted: "We demand that the racist islander Danny is taken off the show immediately"

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
