Love Island’s Tommy Fury ‘doesn’t want to be in Tyson’s shadow’

Tommy Fury says he ‘doesn’t want to be labelled’ as the little brother Tyson as he prepares to enter the Love Island villa.

The 20-year-old, from Manchester, is determined to carve out a career in his own right - and hopes to emerge out of the shadow of his champion sibling.

The boxer, who was trained by Manchester boxing legend Ricky Hatton, made his debut in December last year.

Tommy said: “I’m my own man and I’ve said it throughout my whole boxing career. I don’t want to be labelled as his little brother, I’m my own man and I’m doing the best that I can do in life and that’s all I’m setting out to achieve.”

Tommy is is poised to enter the Mallorcan luxury pad next week along with 11 other Islanders for the new series of the ITV2 show, which starts on Monday, June 3.

The fifth series will again be hosted by Caroline Flack and narrated by Iain Stirling, and is expected to be 'hotter than ever'.

When he’s not bigging himself up, Tommy admits he is “sometimes I’m a bit too confident, sometimes a bit too talkative and then sometimes I’m a bit lazy”.

Excitement has been building around the upcoming ITV2 reality series with a number of mini-videos being issued with the hashtag "Day Dot is coming" - a nod to contestants’ phrases when recalling their very first days on the show.

ITV have teased fans over the last few weeks with the clips that only dedicated viewers will understand, including references to the ‘Do Bits Society’ from last year.

Love Island launches on ITV2 on Monday, June 3.
