Love Island’s Sophie Piper and Connor Durman split as romance ends during lockdown

Love Island stars Sophie Piper and Connor Durman have split up six months after appearing on the reality romance show.

The pair featured on Winter Love Island back at the start of the year – where 25-year-old Brighton lad Connor survived 15 days before being dumped from the villa while 21-year-old Sophie made it to day 22.

Sophie and Connor coupled up during the series but saw their romance peter out after leaving the South African film set and returning to life in the UK.

With the world going in to lockdown in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, the duo reportedly drifted further apart until the romance reached an end.

A source told The Sun: “Things just fizzled out. They never even went official.

“It just didn’t have a chance to get started because of lockdown and they both agreed it was better to just stay friends.”

Sophie – who is the younger sister of The Saturdays star Rochelle Humes – opted to remain single on Love Island after Connor got dumped after two weeks, before being ditched from the show herself a week later.

Love Island has been off the air this summer as the COVID-19 outbreak derailed plans to film the summer season.

While recent reports have suggested the series won’t return for a Winter 2021 season in January – opting instead for a bumper return series later next year.

Last month, show bosses revealed the plans to hold off on returning to the villa.

"ITV want Love Island to be a huge success so have decided to put all their energy into making next summer's series a bumper run, and not trying to force a Winter version given the uncertainty in the television industry still at this point," a source expained.

"January 2021 seems a long way off but the process would be starting imminently and with certain restrictions still in place they don’t want to approach anything half-baked."
