Love Island's Sherif Lanre was axed after 'silly mistake that doesn't involve police'

Sherif Lanre was kicked off Love Island straight after making a "silly mistake", Mirror Online can exclusively reveal.

The 20-year-old chef was taken to the Beach Hut by producers and told he would have to leave the villa immediately.

According to our TV source, Sherif knew "immediately" that this was a leaving matter. It's unclear whether other Islanders were involved.

However, his mistake wasn't serious enough to warrant police involvement.

"Sherif made a silly mistake and was immediately summoned to the Beach Hut - it wasn't a criminal matter and he was spoken to and agreed to leave," a Love Island insider told us.

"Sherif knew he had to leave immediately after being called to the Beach Hut.

"No security were involved."

Sherif will be appearing in tonight's episode of Love Island, but will disappear halfway through the show.

Voiceover star Iain Stirling is expected to make an announcement about him having left, but will not allude to the real reason.

It's believed the other Islanders' reactions will not be shown on camera, and the matter will be quickly brushed under the carpet.

As yet, Sherif's family have not been told why he's been kicked out of the villa.

They said in an Instagram statement that he'll appear in tonight's show.

In a statement, Sherif admitted his "poor judgement" led to him leaving the villa.

"In a case of poor judgement, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa," he said.

"I regret that I didn't conduct myself in the right way and, as a 20 year old guy, it’s something I know I will take on board and learn from.

"I really enjoyed my time in the villa and look forward to catching up with everyone on the outside."

Mirror Online has contacted ITV for comment.
