Love Island's Sharon hit with abuse online after 'backing Chloe and Toby' to win

Sharon Gaffka has spoken out after receiving online abuse ahead of the grand final for Love Island 2021.

The former contestant was the fifth islander to be dumped from the current series and had been on the ITV2 show since Day 1 of the latest run.

Now the outspoken islander has taken to social media to comment on the abuse she has received from some fans of certain couples going into Monday night’s grand final.

Sharon revealed that her choice of screenshot when encouraging fans to vote for their winning couple had proven controversial as it displayed Chloe Burrows and Toby Aromolaran.

On her Instagram Stories on Monday, Sharon wrote: “As if I am writing this…fans of specific couples have been coming @ me for my screenshot of the @loveisland app encouraging you guys to vote because it had Chloe and Toby in.

“Not that I have to explain myself, but I am actually not participating in the vote because they’re all my friends and I want them all to win.”

Sharon revealed that she was not even voting herself as she liked all the couples (sharongaffka/Instagram)

She continued: “The screenshot is just because they’re the first couple on the app.

“Can we just enjoy the final without the nasty messages and comments?

“Thanks for coming [peace sign fingers emoji]”.

Sharon later went on to share screenshots of positive messages she had received in her Instagram direct messages from fans.

She added: “For every bad message/comment there will always be more good ones!

“I will never have time to reply to them all but I do see them! And I’m grateful [red heart emoji]”.

Chloe and Toby are just one of four couples to reach the grand final of the ITV2 series.

They will be up against Kaz Kamwi and Tyler Cruickshank, Millie Court and Liam Reardon, and Faye Winter and Teddy Soares.

The four final couples became apparent after Jake Cornish and Liberty Poole walked out of the villa in Friday’s instalment after the pair’s romantic relationship broke down.

Sunday night’s penultimate instalment saw the couples meet their partner’s loved ones in the villa, albeit socially distanced due to Covid-19 protocols, prompting some emotional scenes.

Heading into the final, all four couples appear to have reached new highs in their romances.

But who will take home the prize money as the series’ champions?

*Love Island concludes tonight at 9pm on ITV2 with previous episodes available on ITV Hub.
