Former Love Island star Sharon Gaffka has told of her concern for the welfare of contestant Faye Winter after the final of this year's final tonight.
Ahead of the current series, the show's producers introduced duty of care protocols after the death of previous Islanders Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis, and host Caroline Flack, who all died by suicide.
Contestants were given training about the "potential negativity" of social media as part of the ITV2 show's duty of care protocols .
But the current series has received 30,000 Ofcom complaints - the most in the history of the reality show - the majority referring to when Faye screamed at her partner Teddy Soares after seeing a clip of him kissing Clarisse Juliette in a challenge.
Sharon, who left Love Island earlier in this series, has now revealed that despite being supported by the show, she understands why previous contestants ended up taking their own lives.
She told how she is concerned for Faye after she received fierce criticism from viewers who told how they 'hated' her.
Sharon told the Guardian: “When I see certain comments, I’m like: ‘You don’t know Faye like I do.’ I see tweets saying: ‘I’ve never hated someone as much as I hate Faye."
She also told how she is worried for Jake Cornish, who was blasted by viewers for saying he didn’t fancy his girlfriend Liberty Poole enough “rip her clothes off”.-
Sharon said: “In the same way, I’m concerned about Jake because I don’t always agree with everything he’s done, but when I was in the villa, Jake was very much like a brother figure to me.”
As part of the protocols brought in this year contestants were offered support by Dr Matthew Gould, a consultant chartered clinical psychologist.
Contestants received comprehensive psychological support on the impact of participation on the show.
They were also offered training with social media after they leave the show as well as handling potential negativity and financial management.
During his argument with Faye, Teddy made multiple attempts to speak to her but she swore at him and told him to not approach her.
"I told you the truth and you told me jack s**t,” Faye shouted.
Teddy responds: “So I lied to you?”
A fuming Faye shouts back: “Yeah you didn’t f***ing tell me the truth did you?”
As Teddy tries to argue his case, Faye shouts: “You didn’t f***ing tell me the truth!”
In the episode Faye also clashed with both Jake and Dale.
She blasted Jake for "hyping" up the boys' lustful behaviour in Casa Amor, while Dale attempted to defuse the situation but also faced Faith's upset.
