Love Island's Paige Turley releases Christmas song in bid for No 1 spot

John Lennon didn’t make it to No1 when he released the original almost 50 years ago.

But Love Island winner Paige Turley will be hoping her cover version of the Beatles legend’s Happy Xmas, War Is Over re-writes the history books.

The reality star hopes to make it to the top of the UK charts with the classic 1971 track which peaked at No2 when it was first released.

The 23-year-old, who used to date singer Lewis Capaldi, has recorded the song and a music video in support of charity Action for Children.

It will be released today to coincide with the launch of her YouTube music channel with all proceeds from the video’s advertising revenue being donated to the charity.

A source said: “After the turbulent year the nation has faced, Paige hopes this will bring some light and a moment of reflection as we head into the festive period.

"She has been working with Action For Children this year and wanted to do something to support them.”

Singer and model Paige, of Fauldhouse, West Lothian, found love and fame when she and Finn Tapp were crowned this year’s winners on the ITV2 show.

This month marks the 40th anniversary of Lennon’s death. He was shot dead by crazed fan Mark Chapman in New York.

Benny Hill kept Lennon off the top of the Christmas charts. He was No1 with Ernie (The Fastest Milkman in the West) for four weeks.
