Love Island's Paige and Finn explain how they found out about Caroline Flack's death

Love Island winners Paige Turley and Finn Tapp have explained how they found out about Caroline Flack's death.

The popular presenter, who tragically died on Saturday February 15 at the age of 40, was much-loved by the two winners.

Finn and Paige revealed that the Islanders were told 'at the best time' just before the final while sending out their love to her family.

He told The Sun : “We were told just before the final. They wanted to tell us at the best time and the best way and we’re thankful that they did that.

“We remember her fondly. We loved her as a fan watching it on telly over the past few series, that’s the relationship we had with her.”

Paige added: “Everybody knew how much she loved Love Island. It’s such a sensitive subject, we just send love to Caroline’s family.”

The Islanders were told of the awful news by ITV bosses, who had previously decided to keep it from them, on the day before the live final.

They were all told off-air and the footage will never be screened.

Love Island fans were left in tears during the final as the show paid tribute to host Caroline with a moving montage.

Presenter Laura Whitmore became choked up as she spoke about her late friend who "loved Love Island".

Ahead of the montage, presenter Laura said: "The past week has been extremely difficult coming to terms with the loss of our friend and colleague Caroline. We're thinking of her family and everyone that knew her at this time.

"Caroline loved Love Island . She loved love and that's why tonight's final is dedicated to her."

The show then aired a variety of clips from Caroline's time on the show, which left fans in tears as they praised the touching tribute.

There was another emotional tribute to Caroline during the first episode that aired following her death.

The programme began without the usual theme music with footage of the cliffs and sea as narrator Iain Stirling paid tribute to his friend.

Iain said: "We are all absolutely devastated by the news that Caroline has passed away.

"Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this dreadful time.

"Caroline and me were together from the start of Love Island, and her passion, warmth, and infectious enthusiasm were a crucial part of what made the show connect with millions of viewers.

"Like many of you, right now we're all just trying to come to terms with what has happened.

"My only hope is that we are try and be kinder, always show love, and listen to one another.

"Caroline, I want to thank you for all the times we had making this show.

"You were a true friend to me.

"I'm gonna miss you, Caz."
