Love Island’s Olivia Bowen says ‘horrible’ trolling led to extreme weight loss

Former Love Island star Olivia Bowen has revealed the extent of online trolling she suffered after exiting the villa back in 2016.

The 27-year-old reality TV star was a runner up on the ITV2 dating show with her partner - now husband - Alex, and has gone on to forge a successful career.

However, when she first exited the villa to her newfound fame, Olivia struggled with many of the comments that people made about her.

Speaking to Jackie Adedeji on the new Boob Share with CoppaFeel! podcast, Olivia opened up about her insecurities in regards to her weight after Love Island.

"Even when I come out on the night, some of the hate, the comments were just horrible," she revealed.

"I remember when I came out, I was tiny and I think I lost about a stone and a half of that because I was just stressed.

"And I remember seeing pictures taken of when I was working out, and at the time I saw them I was like, 'oh God I look really horrible'. And these people were calling me fat online from these pictures."

Olivia continued: "I was about eight stone, maybe seven and a half. I was tiny and I was getting cold and everything. And I looked at the pictures and I thought that I was [fat]."

Five years later and Olivia still doesn't think there's enough body diversity on Love Island.

"I don't feel personally that there's enough body diversity in that, I don't think there ever has been, and I would love to see it," she said.

"I don't feel that in my series we really had any different body shapes. I just feel like it's such a hard thing because Love Island is this bubble that they put these people in, they put these people in that are not your average Joe's and they're objectively stunning now.

"They're done up to the nines with their make-up and hair, so I feel like it's very removed from reality, even though it is reality.

"And I don't know how willing they are to change that and actually introduce your average normal, gorgeous body type that we see on a daily basis," Olivia continued.

"It's a really difficult conversation, but I think they're kind of put on this pedestal and this society's assumption of what is beautiful, and I feel like that is what they look like."

The current series of Love Island will come to an end on Monday 23 August when Laura Whitmore hosts the final and reveals which lucky couple has won £50,000.

Boob Share is a brand new podcast about boobs, where guys, gals and non binary people talk openly about their relationship with their chest.

Boob Share is co-created with CoppaFeel!, the UK's only breast cancer awareness charity for young people and Olivia's episode is available to listen to on Monday 23 August.
