Love Island's Olivia and Maxwell brutally dumped – but are given cruel task in big twist

Love Island 2023 aired its most brutal dumping twist yet on Wednesday, just over a week before the final.

Eight Islanders learned they were at risk of being axed in a surprise dumping following a public vote for the most compatible couple, and two contestants were quickly dropped from the show.

Olivia Hawkins and Maxwell Samuda were dumped from the show immediately, as host Maya Jama returned and revealed the results of the latest public vote.

After viewers voted for the most compatible couples, four couples were left vulnerable and at risk of leaving for good.

These were Olivia and Maxwell, Shaq Muhammad and Tanya Manhenga, Claudia Fogarty and Keanan Brand, and Casey O'Gorman and Rosie Seabrook.

Appearing on the balcony of the Beach Club as she made her sudden and unannounced arrival, Maya said: "You all look like you’re having a cute little time, sorry to crash the party, could you all line up in your couples please."

As the Islanders lined up Maya added: "I’m sure you’re all asking yourselves why I’m here, I’ve got some very important news. The public have been voting for the most compatible couple.

"The couples with the fewest votes risk being dumped from the Island tonight."

Maya then announced which four couples had the least amount of votes and had to step forward.

As the eight Islanders moved towards Maya, she announced that more than one Islander would be going home.

It's then that she confirmed the least voted for couple would leave straight away, with it soon revealed to be Olivia and Maxwell.

But the chaos didn't stop there, as Olivia and Maxwell weren't the only ones being sent home - and there was a major twist.

Maya then dropped the news that the three other vulnerable couples remained at risk, and that two more stars would be next to leave that same night - with it later suggested that all of the couples, including those saved by the public, could be sent home.

Tanya and Shaq, Claudia and Keanan and Casey and Rosie were in the bottom and now face the chop - but it seems no one is safe.

It's then that the eliminated Islanders Olivia and Maxwell discovered they had a part to play, and that it would be up to them who stayed and who left the show for good, in scenes that have already been filmed.

As the Islanders reeled and those at risk waited to hear their fates, the episode ended on a cliffhanger - meaning fans will not find out the result until Thursday night's episode.

Love Island airs every night at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
