Love Island's new arrival Chuggs' real name as he explains meaning behind his nickname

Chuggs Wallis revealed where his unusual nickname came from during Thursday night's episode.

The 23-year-old bucket hat business owner was confirmed to be entering the villa as part of a twist hours after the dramatic departure of Shannon Singh.

Chuggs, originally from Surrey, arrived alongside 21-year-old Liam Reardon.

The public voted for him to spend time with 25-year-old civil servant Sharon Gaffka over a candlelit dinner.

And it was the origin of his nickname that caught Love Island fans' attention.

He revealed his nickname was a combination of the words "cuddles" and "hugs".

Having being called it since his childhood he has now decided to go by Chuggs on national television.

During the date, Sharon asked: "I’ve got a question. Chuggs?"

He replied: "Chuggs, yeah good question. It was going to come at some point. It’s better to get it out of the way now.

"So it is my nickname, Chuggs, like a baby name, cuddles and hugs."

On social media former Love Island winner Amber Gill said: "Cuddles and Hugs??? Wasn’t expecting that."

@Scottish_Suzi added: "The Chuggs name explanation is not what I was expecting - I was waiting for some kind of uni rugby drinking story to come out there, as opposed to “cuddles and hugs” nickname from childhood!!"

@EvieJohnson12 agreed and commented: "Did I hear that wrong or did Chuggs just say his nickname is a mashup of cuddles and hugs"

@stokie1993 said: "Chuggs ‘it’s my nickname, means cuddles and hugs’ mate here I was thinking he could down a pint in less than 3 seconds."
