Love Island's most explosive post-villa splits as stars reveal true colours after show

Sexy singletons are supposed to go on Love Island in a bid to find true love.

And while there is no denying that some couples such as - Olivia Buckland and Alex Bown, Jess Shears and Dom Lever and Camilla Thurlow and Jamie Jewitt - have the series to thank for their enviable relationships, other stars - who fans thought were destined for happily ever after - have not been so lucky.

Over the years, many islanders have left the villa together and thought they were going to walk off into the sunset together but sadly several of them were unable to make their romances work and some of the couples' splits were more explosive than scenes filmed on the reality show.

Here is a look at the most shocking post-villa breakups in Love lsland history.

Olivia Attwood and Chris Hughes

Olivia Attwood and Chris Hughes' romance was full of fireworks when they starred in the 2017 edition of Love Island.

They shockingly called off their relationship seven months after meeting on dating show Love Island, and just weeks before their new reality show was set to air.

Olivia hinted to fans that things were over as she said she was "lied to and used for fame".

A source close to Olivia told The Sun : "Olivia has been pushed to the limit by Chris. She's spent months putting up with him and his bad behaviour.

"He ended it on the phone, but then begged Olivia to forgive him, as he has done before, but this time she has no interest."

"She's done with him. She's stuck by him throughout everything - his feud with Katie Price and even the incident in the nightclub where he was seen appearing to kiss another woman, but she is fed up now and feels completely used by him. She's told him it's all over and that's it."

Olivia tweeted: "I think one of the worst feelings in life is being angry at yourself. Angry for the way I tried to see the good in someone when no one else did. I fell for the lies. I believed I was more then just a job [sic]."

The split was just one week after Olivia was caught sending flirty messages to her ex-boyfriend, Bradley Dack - who she is now engaged to - on Twitter.

The posts were since deleted, but not before Chris saw them and replied "interesting".

The couple had been filming their own ITVBe show, Crackin' On and their break-up featured on the show.

Greg O'Shea and Amber Gill ended their romance shortly after winning (ITV)
Greg O'Shea and Amber Gill

Love Island 2019 stars Amber Gill and Greg O'Shea dramatically split just weeks after they won the show.

At the time it was reported that Greg had put an end to their relationship over text and it was claimed that Geordie Amber was completely blindsided by the rugby star dumping her after they split the £50,000 prize money.

After the spit, the star told Fabulous magazine she was happy for him to keep the cash despite their short-term romance fizzling out.

She admitted: “I needed someone else to win and we won it together. I don’t hate him, Im just disappointed in him, really.”

Amber added that she was hoping to see Greg make an effort to visit her in London or Newcastle, and said she was dumped on the day she was due to fly to see him in Ireland.

Recently, Speaking on the Rig Biz Podcast, Greg suggested that Amber's management were in fact to blame for the rumours that he ended their romance via text.

During the podcast, Greg called Amber 'beautiful' as he reflected on their brief romance, but admitted that it could never work because of the long-distance between them.

He said: "She's so beautiful and a lovely person, but the thing is, I always knew in the back of my head that I was going back to Ireland. Unless she's willing to move to Ireland, I don't see how this relationship is going to keep going. And I always kind of said that to her.

When it came to their split, Greg explained that they did speak in person about going their separate ways.

Greg went on: "She expected me to fight for it more. And it was over facetime and calls and we had one in-person chat about it and then the final nail in the coffin, was she said 'I don't want to be with someone who isn't sure if they want to be with me'.

However, before he had time to fight his corner, the reality star had been accused of savagely dumping Amber over text.

"I went training, came back, checked my phone and the article that had been released were 'Greg breaks up with Amber over text," he added.

"She knows that's not the truth, I rang her, and asked 'why would you bother doing this, you know that's not the truth, that's not what happened,' and she said 'it wasn't me, I didn't want that to happen'. It was whoever her people are, and it was too late, the damage is done.

Frustrated by the situation, the couple cut ties before he reached out to her in 2020.

He said: "We didn't talk again then until Caroline Flack passed away. And I sent Amber a message because I knew how close she was to her, she was so upset with what happened with Michael in Casa Amor... Caroline really took care of Amber."

Jack Fincham and Dani Dyer split more than once (ITV)
Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham

Love Island's Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham are another couple who had a rollercoaster relationship.

They split for the first time in December 2018 , just a few months after they won Love Island together and six months into their relationship.

After they moved in together and bought a dog Dani shared a post to say they'd split.

She said: "Jack & I have sadly decided to part ways. It's been an incredible 6 months, and we will always have a place in our hearts for each other, but sadly we've come to the realisation that it's not meant to be long term.

"We both plan to stay friends. I hope you'll all understand. Love Dani x"

But the couple were soon back together and said that it was nothing but a row but then five months later they called it quits for good.

Jack told fans the relationship was over in an Instagram statement by penning: ""There is no easy way to say this and it isn't going to be an easy time but me and Dani are not in a relationship anymore.

"We will always care a lot for each other and have love for each other and I mean that from the bottom of my heart and I wish her nothing but happiness."

He added: "We have some amazing memories together and have been through a lot but sometimes things aren't meant to be and we really did try to make it work but it, unfortunately, didn't and that is life.

"That's all I have to say, a break up is hard enough as it is for both of us let alone in the public eye so I hope everyone is considerate and understands this."

Dani then told the Huffington Post UK : "It's just one of them things, it didn’t work out. There’s going to be a lot of stuff going on about it, but it’ll be fine.

"I wish all the best for Jack, it just didn’t work out."

After the end of the reality TV romance Dani rekindled a relationship with ex Sammy Kimmence - who she now shares son Santiago with.

Jack also became a father to daughter Blossom but he is not with his little girl's mother.

Wes Nelson and Megan Barton Hanson's relationship came to end during his time on Dancing on Ice (ITV)

Megan Barton Hanson and Wes Nelson

Megan Barton Hanson and Wes Nelson lasted six months together outside the Love Island villa.

The split came amid Wes taking part on Dancing On Ice - which Megan had been vocal about creating a wedge between them.

"It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate," Megan wrote in a statement announcing that she was once again single.

"We have been working hard for well under a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much, we will remain separate.

"We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we ever have been.

"We are parents first and foremost to one incredibly wonderful hamster and we ask for his and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time.

"We haven't really conducted our relationship that privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and co-parent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.

And in a surprise move Megan then went on to be in the live audience of Dancing On Ice, the following evening, to support Wes and who was dancing with Vanessa Bauer - who Megan expressed jealousy over.

"In all seriousness, I am so grateful and so blessed to have found Wes, I will always love and adore him and I am so lucky to call him my best friend," Megan continued.

"It has been an incredibly hard decision to make for both of us but we are looking forward to moving on together as friends and supporting each other in everything we do.

"I will be down at Dancing On Ice tomorrow to watch him smash it again. Only one thing left to say, come on Wes and Vanessa! x," she finished.

Two weeks prior to the split, Megan caused major ruffled feathers as she hit out at skating pro Vanessa for coinciding the news of her own breakup with Wes' debut dance.

She accused Vanessa of wanting media attention, writing on her Instagram Story: "Love that you decide to announce your breakup with your boyfriend on the night of your 1st performance with my boyfriend!

"You've never reached out to me once or invited me to watch you train, it pained you to introduce yourself to me last night you didn't even look me in the eye LOL."

She added: "Hope the tactical breakup got your the headlines you wanted babe."

Wes had already bragged of his "chemistry" with Vanessa, fuelling rumours Megan was bitterly jealous about her boyfriend spending so much time with her.

Although she denied it at the time, Megan later admitted she was feeling insecure about Wes and Vanessa's bond.

"I was just really hurt, obviously. I think it's normal, I'm not deeply insecure. I’m jealous, I am selfish..." she confessed.

"She didn't even say thank you for a post I did about them. I was getting more press from Dancing On Ice than her."

Ellie Brown and Charlie Brake's romance was shortlived after he was seen dining another woman (ITV)
Ellie Brown and Charlie Brake

Ellie Brown and Charlie Brake's split was explosive following their meeting on the 2018 series.

Their break up was messy - with sources saying it came totally out of the blue for Ellie.

“In the heat of the moment Charlie ended it but then rushed to Instagram to tell everyone; and that really upset Ellie," The Sun reported.

“She felt incredibly hurt and disrespected.”

It was then claimed that the romance ended after eight weeks due to Charlie being busted wining and dining another woman behind Ellie's back.

Despite telling Ellie he was spending the night at his mum's house in Kent, he was spotted at London restaurant Zuma with a mystery blonde on Monday, The Sun claimed.

A huge row reportedly ensued after fans tipped Ellie off, apparently prompting Charlie to announce their split on Instagram without even telling her.

“She woke up Tuesday to several messages from fans who’d seen Charlie at Zuma in Knightsbridge having a romantic dinner with another woman," a source claimed, alleging that he looked 'panicked' and 'uncomfortable' when approached by admirers wanting a picture.

When confronted by Ellie, he apparently admitted returning to London but insisted he'd only gone to Nandos.

“That led to them having a massive row as Ellie knew he was lying and had photographic evidence to prove it. In the heat of the moment Charlie ended it but then rushed to Instagram to tell everyone; and that really upset Ellie," the source added.

The pair later came face to face on MTV's Ex on the Beach and made amends and vowed to stay friends.

Maura Higgins and Curtis Pritchard's romance ending flawed the professional dancer (ITV)
Maura Higgins and Curtis Pritchard

Love Island 2019 stars Maura Higgins and Curtis Pritchard split after just eight months together.

Maura, 29, took to her Instagram stories to confirm the news, admitting they "couldn't make it work".

She wrote: "Curtis and I have made the decision to separate. We enjoyed a great experience from our time in the villa and want to thank everyone for supporting our relationship.

"There is no easy way to get through a breakup and no bad feeling on either side.

"We tried to make it work but it wasn't to be and I wish Curtis nothing but the best for the future."

The statement was issued hours after the couple denied rumours they'd split.

They'd not been seen together in a month - prompting speculation they'd parted ways in secret.

However, Maura's rep told The Sun Online she and Curtis were "still together", while Curtis' rep also denied the split.

Hours later - Maura issued her bombshell post confirming the news was actually true.

Curtis later lashed out at Maura and branded her a 'backstabber' after she moved on with another islander Chris Taylor - who she has since split from.

Dancer Curtis demanded to know when they really started their relationship, and claims there have been signs since the trio were in the Majorcan villa together last summer.

Claiming he felt "stabbed in the back" when seeing the pictures Maura and Chris posted on Instagram to announce they were official, Curtis said he'd been a friend to Chris when he was upset in the villa.

"I supported him and backed him up. I was a really good person to Chris — and he told me then that he fancied Maura.

"But later on it all disappeared. He unfollowed me online, then Maura unfollowed me too," he told the Sun.

"I was accused of cheating on Maura by someone online but when that happened, Maura was in a club with Chris. He was pouring drinks into her mouth, and Maura's pouring drinks into Chris's mouth — and they were staying together too at times like that.

“I got all of the stick at the time, that's why I never spoke about it. But really I should have confronted her and spoken about it, but I never did – until now."

Cracks started appearing between Maura and Curtis, especially when she got a stint on Dancing On Ice and was accused of getting cosy with her partner Alexander Demetriou.

Curtis said he suspected it was around the time of his panto gig that things went downhill, claiming Maura only bothered to come and watch him in one performance.

"That's when she started the Dancing On Ice rehearsals. When the show started on TV I wanted to come and watch her. I'd be waiting at home cooking dinner for when she finished, trying to look after her. I treated her like a queen," he went on.

"I'd have done anything for her but after the first couple of shows she just asked me to stop coming. That hurt me. I just didn’t understand why she didn't want me to come.

"The strange thing was loads of other people were still coming. Chris was going all the time. I’d keep asking but she'd always say no."

Their breakup came days after Adam was pictured cuddling up to a brunette woman and partying with Instagram model Brittany Archer in his native Newcastle amid reports the couple were on a break.

A source said: "Zara wasn’t happy after discovering Adam was out with the group that included Brittany.

"They ended up having a big argument. Close pals have confirmed they’re at breaking point."

After their rows, Adam fled to Newcastle were he was spotted with the mystery lady.

A source told the Sun : "Adam and Zara have spent the last week having furious arguments.

"There's still so much love between them but they have decided for the moment that it's best to go their separate ways.

"They were due to go on a romantic holiday to the Maldives together this week but will no longer be going.

"They did their best to work through their issues but at this stage there's no going back. They have since unfollowed each other on Instagram."

Fans were heartbroken when Kem Cerinay and Amber Davies broke up (ITV)
Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies

Love Island 2017 winners Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies had fans believing they would stand the test of time.

However, months later the pair announced their split, they blamed "hectic schedules" for the break-up.

In a joint statement Kem and Amber shared: "With sadness, we've decided to separate."

The couple, who share an Essex love nest together said: "We fell in love in the villa and want to thank all the fans of the show for supporting us.

"Our lives have changed beyond recognition over the past few months and our hectic work schedules have made it difficult to make things work.

"We still have a lot of love for each other and will remain good friends.”

A friend of the couple said they've been bickering and 'clashed over the smallest things.'

The insider also put the blame on the couple's hectic schedules on the split - as Kem starts his intense rehearsals for Dancing On Ice next year.

“They tried to make it work but realised they want different things and being together was too tough,” the friend revealed to The Sun.

Before their break up insisted that Amber trusted him not to run off with one of the dancers during Dancing On Ice.

"Amber trusts me and she's comfortable with it," he told the Daily Star.

"People talk about the Strictly curse and whatever but whoever does that can't be very comfortable in their relationships."

He then added that he'd be keeping any relationship with a dancer strictly "professional".
