Love Island's Michael Griffiths unconvincingly congratulates ex Amber Gill on £50k win

Michael Griffiths could be forgiven for kicking himself this morning, having watched his ex Amber Gill be crowned the winner of Love Island 2019 alongside new beau Greg O'Shea.

And while the hunky firefighter reacted with glee when he was being filmed for Instagram as the result was announced, his response was a lot more sober when he was interviewed by Good Morning Britain afterwards.

In a clip shown on the ITV show today, Michael looked distinctly less happy with the result as he unsmilingly told the camera: "I'm actually so happy for Amber and Greg right now. They are such a nice couple together and it's nice to see them smiling, both of them.

"They look so happy together. It's nice."

Charlotte Hawkins could be heard laughing in disbelief in the studio as entertainment reporter Richard Arnold battled on with his segment.

Michael had been at the Love Island Experience in Brighton to watch the final, sitting next to villa alumni Josh Denzel as Caroline Flack dramatically unveiled the winners live from Majorca.

With the dramatic pause before the announcement was made, Michael exclaimed: "This is tense!"

Then it was revealed that Amber and Greg had triumphed - and Michael couldn't have been more ecstatic if he had won the show himself.

Jumping around the stage on Brighton beach, he shouted "Oh s**t!" nine times, before saying: "I didn't expect that, wow!"

Michael and Amber had the most history of any of the couples in the villa, having coupled up on the very first day.

Their relationship seemed to flourish, until they were tested to breaking point by Casa Amor, when Michael devastatingly chose new arrival Joanna Chimonides to couple up with, leaving Amber single.

But when he and Joanna found themselves on the brink of being dumped, Michael refused to leave the villa in solidarity with her - despite telling her moments previously that he'd "found what I was looking for".

Furious Joanna branded him a "f**king snake", and it didn't take long before his green-eyed monster surfaced when Greg walked in to sweep Amber off her feet.

Michael even confessed to having feelings for Amber again, but after the way he treated her, she refused to entertain the idea of rekindling their flame.

She picked Greg at the recoupling and Michael was left to leave the villa as a single pringle.
