Love Island's Maxwell speaks out on Olivia split after short-lived romance outside villa

Love Island's Maxwell Samuda has lifted the lid on his break-up from Olivia Hawkins.

The pair confirmed their split at the start of April, after they were dumped from the Love Island villa a month earlier, with a rep for the actress saying it was a mutual decision.

And it appears the pair have remained amicable, with Maxwell saying he only wants the best for Liv.

Speaking about his break-up, Maxwell said: "The main thing I would say with the whole situation, when you're in the villa and even just after the villa but you're still in South Africa together, it's a very different environment."

The reality TV star told The Murad Merali Podcast: "All that you have to focus on in that period of time is each other and kind of just being on holiday together and it's kind of easy to have a great time when you're on holiday and stuff like that."

Turning to life outside the villa, Maxwell: "But once you come back home and there are all these other things going on that then take your attention and take your focus.

"It really gives you the opportunity to look at it and think is there really longevity in this situation or is it that we've connected and had this really amazing time together, but outside in the real world we're just not too sure if it has that same longevity to it."

He added later in the podcast: "Some people could expect me to be bitter and her to be bitter and come out and say some stuff but honestly... I hold her in very high regard.

"I think she's an amazing girl and I want really amazing things for her and a great time with all of the things she's doing."

Maxwell and Liv were the third couple from the most recent series of Love Island to split, after Casey O' Gorman and Rosie Seabrook, as well as Zara Deniz Lackenby-Brown and Jordan Odofin.

Last month, finalists Samie Elishi and Tom Clare confirmed their split, after speculation among fans.

In an emotional YouTube video, Samie told her supporters: "It's ended on good terms. No one's done anything bad to each other, there's still lots and lots of love there. It just wasn't working on the outside and we both agreed on the majority of the things.

"There's no bad blood there, me and Tom. I would never say a bad word about him and he wouldn't about me."

The star continued: "We just weren't working on the outside. I feel like when you come out of the villa you've got so much pressure and so many other things to worry about that plays a huge factor in a relationship.

"It was just a lot more difficult to maintain outside of the villa."
