Nearly 500 people have complained to broadcasting watchdog Ofcom about Maura Higgins’ behaviour towards Tommy Fury as fans call for her to be removed from Love Island.
Viewers were left feeling uncomfortable on Friday night as the grid girl writhed around on top of the boxer while attempting to kiss him as he turned his head.
She kept trying to get him to ask her to sleep on the sofa with him but he shut down her advances and later got back into bed with Molly-Mae Hague who he is coupled up with.
Ofcom has received 486 complaints about her behaviour since Friday, with a spokesperson telling Standard Online: “We will assess these complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate.”
Maura was branded a “sexual predator” by viewers who accused show bosses of double standards after Sherif Lanre claimed he was removed for making an offensive joke after kicking Molly-Mae in the crotch during a play fight.
One user tweeted: “So was Sherif removed from #loveisland for ACCIDENTALLY kicking Molly-Mae in the foof or for using the C word? I don’t get it. Maybe follow your own rules #loveisland and remove Maura for being a complete sexual predator! If she was a bloke she’d be long gone! #doublestandards.”
Another wrote: “Maura should have been removed after what she did, if it was a lad who had done it to one of the lasses he'd have been removed straight away!”
A third posted: “Am I the only one that thinks Maura should ethier be removed from the villa or at least warned because she's coming on too strong and was acting predatory towards Tommy.”
She received a backlash on Sunday night’s show after suggestively sucking on an ice lolly as she walked past Tommy, who later opted to pick Molly-Mae over her in the recoupling.
Holly Willoughby was among those who criticised her actions, saying she went “too far”.
