Love Island's Maura Higgins horrified as she spits LIVE fly out of her mouth

Love Island 2019 star Maura Higgins was left mortified this week, when she began to choke only for a fly to fall out of her mouth - still alive.

The Irish beauty was chilling in the garden with Curtis Pritchard and Danny Williams when she suddenly became aware something was in the back of her throat.

As Danny and Curtis watched confused, she began attempting to spit something out.

It’s then that the bug, still alive, came out of her mouth and fell beside the bed they were sitting on.

The boys, like viewers, were mortified as they witnessed the living fly still moving, as Maura claimed she “could have died”.

Maura told them: “Sorry but there was a fly in my mouth, look!"

She added: "I knew there was something in the back of my throat and I was like what the hell... it was alive. I could have died."

Danny also saw the fly while Curtis was grossed out by her spitting on the decking.

Viewers were not so keen on the scene, with many asking why it was shown as others simply shared their disgust.

One fan tweeted: “Did Maura really just spit out a live fly?”

Another said: “Why did the editor think it was a good idea to give that struggling fly that many close-ups?”

A third commented: “Seeing a fly come out of Maura mouth and it wasn't dead.”

This was echoed by another viewer who said: “Oh my God a fly was in her mouth wtf.”

Love Island airs all week at 9pm on ITV2.
