Love Island's Maura and Curtis confirm split eight months after leaving villa

Love Island fans have been sobbing into their pillows since last night - probably.

Golden couple Maura Higgins and Curtis Pritchard, who got together on last summer's show, have announced they have decided to go their separate ways after eight months together.

The high-profile pair made the announcement via Instagram on Monday night.

Maura, 29, took to her stories to they "couldn't make it work".

She added: "Curtis and I have made the decision to separate. We enjoyed a great experience from our time in the villa and want to thank everyone for supporting our relationship.

"There is no easy way to get through a breakup and no bad feeling on either side.

"We tried to make it work but it wasn't to be and I wish Curtis nothing but the best for the future."

And the model turned popular TV personality showed it's not been an easy decision to make by finishing the post with a broken heart emoji.

Curtis, 24, is yet to comment on the news.

The couple hadn't been pictured together for more than a month, after attending the National Television Awards and hosting from the red carpet as a duo on January 28.

It was reported that after the ceremony they'd had a heated row after he said she only got the red carpet presenting gig because of his fame.

Just yesterday their reps denied that they'd broken up after fans questioned why they hadn't been seen.

Curtis told Maura he loved her in a gushing Instagram post for Valentine's Day (Instagram)

Maura and Curtis, who famously formed a relationship after Curtis' controversial split with Amy Hart in the Majorcan villa last summer, were one of the only surviving couples from season five.

Winners Amber Gill and Greg O'Shea split just weeks after the final.

India Reynolds and Ovie Soko, Anton Danyluk and Belle Hassan, Chris Taylor and Harley Brash and Lucie Donlan and Joe Garratt all went their separate ways soon after the series finished.

But Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury are still going strong, with the loved-up pair regularly appearing together at events, on social media, and even at Tyson Fury's fights.
