Love Island's Marcel Somerville is expecting his first child with girlfriend Rebecca Vieria

Love Island favourite Marcel Somerville is to become a dad for the first time.

The Blazin’ Squad star, 34, has revealed his influencer girlfriend Rebecca Vieria is expecting just weeks after he had a brush with death following a hospital stint.

Somerville, who placed fourth alongside then-girlfriend Gabby Allen in the 2017 series of the ITV2 show, discovered he was going to become a father when recording new music.

“I was in the studio with my headphones on and [Rebecca] tapped me on the shoulder,” he explained.

“She had loads of pregnancy tests in her hand, just to make doubly sure. It was crazy! It's my first baby and I've been waiting a long time for this, so it's just mad.”

The Crossroads singer added the news comes after girlfriend of fourteen months Vieria tragically miscarried very early in their relationship.

After meeting in a London nightclub in 2018, Somerville explained the difficult ordeal only brought the pair closer together.

“We found out we were pregnant very early in our relationship, and both felt like we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together, so we were getting ready for the baby,” he continued to OK! Magazine.

“We both took it really badly. It took a little while for us to get over it, but it did make us stronger because when you go through something like that, it makes you be there for the other person.”

Somerville himself was rushed to hospital earlier this year suffering with Covid-19 symptoms. Describing it was “the worst moment of his life”, it transpired the musician was unknowingly suffering from Type 1 diabetes and suffering with diabetic ketoacidosis; this is where the body produces high levels of blood acids called ketones.

But in happier news, Somerville is not the only Love Island graduate awaiting the pitter-patter of tiny feet, with series three runners-up Camilla Thurlow and Jamie Jewitt also announcing they are expecting a baby.
