Love Island's Laura Whitmore admits villa stinks of 'BO and Lynx Africa'

Love Island presenter Laura Whitmore says the villa stinks of sweat and Lynx Africa deodorant.

The 37-year-old TV star has given devoted fans an idea of what the current cast of islanders smell like - and it doesn't sound too appealing.

She says a concoction of "the carpet, the fake tan, the make-up, the BO - and 40 to 50 people" roughly sums up the stench of the Mallorcan villa.

Speaking on Alan Carr's Life's A Beach podcast, Laura claimed: "It smells so bad. If you think about it – that amount of people, about 40 or 50 islanders go through it the whole summer.

"It starts off with about 10 or 12 and then more keep going in. And they're like 18-year-olds.

"The carpet, the fake tan, the make-up, the BO….it stinks! It smells like Lynx Africa, you know when they try to cover the BO? That's what it smells like."

Laura's revelation comes after she was heavily criticised by Love Island fans, who accused her of not doing much work hosting the ITV2 dating show.

Ahead of the show's return last week, Laura took to TikTok to address the negative comments about her presenting skills, and told her followers she was getting the negativity out of the way early.

"Shall we get this out of the way, then we can enjoy the juicy bits! See ya Monday," she wrote, alongside a clip of her responding to some of the harsh comments.

"I think it's ridiculous that Laura flies back and forth - send the guests there!" the first comment read, prompting Laura to clarify: “The Villa is Mallorca and Aftersun is London.

“This is the situation for any host, always has been. If I could stay in Mallorca I would. But at the moment, flying me back [sic] and is MORE EFFICIENT than bringing our new guests and audience every week. I have it in my contract to offset carbon emissions,” she explained.

Replying to one viewer who said she has the “easiest job on the telly” and is paid “£50k a minute”, Laura called out the double standards, as nobody asks her husband Iain Sterling, who narrates Love Island, how much he earns.

“Firstly, Iain has never had attention on money he earns. Why don't we like women earning money? I bloody wish I earned what was written in the press! I only get paid days I work,” she fired back.

Laura said it was “exhausting” having to read all the comments suggesting she needed to be fired from the show, saying it happens “every year”.

She also addressed criticism that she was “so boring”, as one viewer accused her of being a bad presenter.

“Why doesn't she ask more? What's with all the pauses!?” they complained.

“DRAMA baby! If I was on hosting duties I would be having full on banter,” Laura began.

"But I can't. I need to stay as impartial as possible and trust the process. Last year with social distancing I couldn't even give them a hug! And I am a hugger,” she added.
