Love Island's Kem Cetinay on what really happens before contestants enter the villa

Former Love Island winner Kem Cetinay has revealed what happens before contestants head into the villa.

Kem, who appeared on the ITV2 hit dating show back in 2017, where he won the series, dished behind-the-scenes secrets ahead of the long-awaited launch night on June 28.

Appearing on Capital Breakfast, the 25-year-old told hosts Rob Howard and Lauren Layfield: "Do you know what guys, I have to be a little bit careful because every time I get asked these questions I always get myself in trouble for giving away secrets.

"Do you know what, they’re all just kind of… not holding pens… But they’re kind of in hotels or apartments waiting to go in so they don’t see each other.

Kem won the series with Amber Davies in 2017 (PA)

"Obviously you’ve gotta keep them apart. So they’re probably all just waiting, sun-bathing now, waiting to go in."

But not everyone gets the same treatment, Kem revealed.

When it comes to finding out whether or not you're in the villa or on the reserve list he said "everyone's different."

"I knew quite a while, I knew a couple of months before, to give me a chance to get in the gym and that," he said.

"Everyone’s different really. It all depends. Some people know really early, some people know the day before.

"I remember Chris [Hughes] didn’t know 'til like 12 hours before he went in."

Although Kem took home the crown alongside Amber Davies, he insists that he wouldn't go back on the show even if he had the chance.

When asked if he'd make a return he said: "No because I think my game’s got progressively worse as the years have gone on. I think I’d probably be out of it in a week. I just got lucky!"

From the moment you get out there, you're in your own bubble, he explained as he recalled now seeing any of the other islanders until he was in the villa.

He added: "You literally see nothing from when you fly out there. You’re kinda just in an apartment waiting. So you don’t know anything about anyone until you walk down them stairs."

Love Island starts tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
