Love Island's Jess and Ched confirm they've split in lockdown

Love Island 's Jess Gale and Ched Uzor have called it quits on their six month romance.

The blonde beauty 21, and hunk, 23, decided to go their separate ways after the nationwide lockdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic, kept them apart.

The couple met on the first-ever Winter Love Island series that was filmed in South Africa back in January and came in fourth place at the end of the series, losing out to Scottish winner Paige Turley and boyfriend Finn Tapp.

Jess took to her Instagram account to tell her followers the sad news and said that despite parting romantically, the pair are "still good friends."

The message uploaded onto her story on Thursday read: "To confirm, myself and Ched have split. ‘We are still good friends and I wish him all the best. Thanks for all the support you have given us since the villa."

Chad also re-posted the message onto his Instagram story.

In a statement shared with  MailOnline  Jess's representative added: "After a whirlwind romance in the Love Island villa, unfortunately Jessica Gale and Ched Uzor have made the mutual decision to split.

"They have unfortunately felt the effects of lockdown separation but will continue as friends. They wish nothing but the best for each other and full success in each others careers."

It comes after Jess told Metro in April that the couple were isolating apart - with Ched in Bury St Edmunds with his family and Jess in London.

The reality star told: "Probably this lockdown thing does make us, probably less close. Just because like, it’s not the same is it? When you can’t actually see someone."

She added: "But I guess you’ve just got to make do with the situation.

"We’re not actually like, in a relationship,’ she added. ‘We never made it official, but we claimed it was exclusive. ‘We were going out and everything in London, as soon as we got out of Villa back in the UK, and then he went back to see his family for a bit, and the next thing we know it’s lockdown!"

Before lockdown put a dampener on their blossoming romance, Ched and Jess had been snapped on a string of cosy dates with the blonde bombshell's twin Eve Gale tagging along.

Fellow contestants Siannise Fudge and Luke Trotman and winners Paige Turley and Finn Tapp are still going strong and have spent lockdown together, with Finn even driving six hours to be with Paige in Scotland.
