Love Island's Jake and Liberty quit show just days before the final

Love Island's Jake Cornish and Liberty Poole have quit the show just days away from the final.

The couple, who decided to call time on their relationship in last night's show, have decided to leave the show and give up the change of winning the £50,000 prize.

A source told MailOnline: "It was a really tough decision for the couple to make, but it felt like the right thing to do.

"They'd given it their all on camera and wanted to let their friends in other couples have a chance at winning.

"Saying goodbye was emotional for all the Islanders, as they've become so close, like family, but it won't be long before they're all reunited.

"It's not 100 per cent over for Jake and Liberty, there are still a lot of feelings involved, so who knows what will happen on the future."

The pair had been together the longest in the villa and many thought they'd win before their rocky patch (ITV)

During last night's show, Liberty cried as she explained her fears that Jake had 'the ick' with her because she was untidy, before confessing to Faye Winter that she didn't think her and her boyfriend were right for each other.

She said: "If I'm not making him happy I don't wanna be in this relationship. All I can do is be me. I can't be fake, I can't pretend I am happy when I am not.

"I'm not taking anything away from Jake. He is a great guy, I just don’t think we are right for each other."

Liberty then told Jake it was over before handing back the bracelet he gave her to cement their romance.

Cracks between the pair have been seen in recent weeks, especially after Jake held back on telling her his true feelings for her.

It all started to go downhill when Liberty heard his comments from week one about not wanting to rip her clothes off, and then when he dropped the L-bomb, she was told by her girls that they believed he was just telling her what she wanted to hear.

On Thursday's episode, fans saw Liberty breaking down, as she ripped off her microphone pack and stormed off.

Jake made a comment about it "all being about her" during a selfie, and from there, things escalated.

Liberty cried with pal Faye who encouraged her to be honest and be herself, with Liberty soon raising her issues with an anxious Jake after wanting to leave the villa.

She told him that she didn't think he loved her for who she was and that she wanted someone to love her for her.

Liberty shared her concern that their energy was different to earlier on in the series, before saying she didn't want to change for anyone.

Jake was baffled by the change of heart, before questioning if they were done for good - not realising his comments that he claimed to be "banter" had upset her.

Later, she repeated her comments and said she didn't think he truly loved her - while Jake suggested they both saw things differently.

He said he didn't want to even think about splitting up with her thinking he had found the one, before making the joint decision to end it now.

Liberty said: "I hope you find someone that suits you better."

He replied: "Don't be silly... I'm sorry that you've ever felt like that and it's something I need to work on in the future, and I hope you find someone who...."

The pair hugged it out before she walked away and took her mic off and tried to leave the villa, before being stopped by Faye.

Love Island airs every night at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub.
