Love Island's Iain Stirling in Buffering with Harry Potter star Jessie Cave and Vicky Pattison

Edinburgh comedian Iain Stirling is set to grace out tele screens with celebrity guests, in August with his new show, Buffering.

Calling it a "dream come true", the Love Island narrator has written and will be staring in this new comedy about millennials trying to make their way through the awkward 20s.

Sharing a teaser clip on Twitter, Iain's housemates makes a joke about his fame, saying "I saw your Tinder profile. Isn’t there like a celebrity version to go on?"

He responds: “I’m not into that whole celebrity lifestyle"

that because you were rejected?" they shoot back.

As Iain looks confused, he says, "Well, it’s pending, actually. Steven Mulhern said he had to wait six months."

Iain will be joined by Harry Potter star Jessie Cave, Paul G Raymond, Rosa Robson and Janine Harouni as Iain’s flatmates and Elena Saurel as Olivia, who plays Iain's boss and complicated love interest.

It has also been announced that comedians Lolly Adefope, Michael Spicer and Joel Dommett are to guest star on Iain Stirling’s new sitcom Buffering, alongside Vicky Pattison, Alistair Green, Nigel Ng, Sam Womack and Phil Fletcher.

More known for doing stand-up and the voice over of Love Island, this will be Iain's acting debut but his character, who is also called Iain, is very much inspired by what the comedian experienced in his 20s.

"Basically me, but younger, and because lockdown- me, younger and thinner." He adds.

Iain explains: "I had an Edinburgh show that revolved pretty heavily around my time on Kids TV. I think there was a story about me spending a few days in Bath with Jedward after I'd broken up with a girlfriend for years, and a week before Christmas.

"So that was a very enjoyable experience for everyone concerned." He joked.

"And then I spoke to the very personable and likeable Jon Thoday and Richard Allen-Turner at Avalon and they said, Oh, this would make a good sitcom."

Iain then joined forces with mate and BBC New Comedy Award winning, Steve Bugeja who "has a very good sitcom brain" and the idea evolved into what is now an ensemble cast in Buffering.

While a lot of Iain's character is based on his life when he was a children's TV presenter, Steve adds that they wanted to tell more than just Iain's story, but explore the issues people can face in their 20s.

He says: "We wanted to sort of articulate that bit of in life, where you're in your sort of mid late 20s, you're sort of too old to be at going out partying and be carefree.

"But you're not like rich or old enough to get a mortgage and settle down and you haven't really found the right job or the right relationship. And this sort of, you're sort of stuck in limbo a bit.

"So that's why we've got our six main cast who are sort of all in different bits of that limbo, but they're all trying to work out how to be adults.

"And they're surrounded by social media telling them that everyone else is having the perfect life. And they feel like they're messing up all the time. And it's sort of just about that, really, and we're so proud of it."

Buffering will be out in August on ITV2 and ITV Hub.
