Love Island's Hugo Hammond decided to end things with AJ Bunker before encouraging the reality star to move on with Danny Bibby.
The 24-year-old P.E teacher, who had been coupled up with the newcomer, admitted that he wasn't '100 percent there' and decided to swiftly cut ties before things got complicated.
In the awkward scenes, that aired following tonight's 70s party, Hugo sat down with AJ before gently letting her know that he thought they were better off as friends.
Speaking to AJ, Hugo said: "At the beginning, there was something I couldn't quite put my finger on, and I thought the more we got to know each other, the more time we spent together, I might be able to kind of figure out what it was.
"But, at the minute I just see that you and I are better off as friends on that front.
He then added: "I genuinely think that you and Danny could have something really great, I think you guys bounce off each other.
"It would be rude of me and wrong of me to just float through this and do 'you and I' and take it slow when I'm not 100 percent into it."
While AJ seemed quite surprised by Hugo's remarks, it also didn't take long for her to get close to Danny later in the episode.
It also looked like Love Island viewers largely praised Hugo for being honest about how he felt.
"Hugo is actually so sweet! He’s friendzoned AJ but at least he’s giving her chance to meet someone and not being selfish leading her on! He’s allowed to not like her #LoveIsland," wrote one viewer.
Another added: "Oh dear, AJ has been friendzoned. I fear for Hugo's safety in here! But good for him for being honest rather than faking it to keep himself in the villa #LoveIsland."
Hugo had been on the fence about his coupling with AJ ever since she picked him over the weekend, which meant that Sharon Gaffka was sent packing.
Whereas AJ had made it clear that she was very interested in Hugo, he seemed a little taken aback that she was so forward with her feelings.
Following their split, AJ then shared a smooch with Danny as they chatted about getting to know each other better.
However, the biggest shock to the villa came after the islanders learned that one boy and one girl would be axed from the villa after a public vote.
Six contestants risk being dumped from the island, with AJ and Danny being among them.
