Love Island's Hugo Hammond belts out Welsh national anthem despite being English

Love Island 2021 contestant Hugo Hammond has shared a video of himself blasting out the Welsh national anthem on Instagram.

The PE teacher from Hampshire posed with a pal in a Welsh rugby shirt during the 2021 Six Nations, before recording himself singing Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau.

He captioned the post: "The most dynamic Welsh duo since Henson and Hook. We are winning the 6 nations, hold me to it."

Although it's not known what Hugo's ties to Wales are, the 24-year-old - who studied sports coaching at Oxford Brookes University - put in a commendable effort as he sang the Welsh language verse, shouting, "Here we go!" before belting out the chorus.

One thing we know for sure is that he's a huge sports fan in general, teaching PE at secondary school and representing his country at cricket.

Hugo, who was born with clubfoot and went through operations when he was a child, explained: "I've actually played cricket for England PD (Physical Disability). I've been to Bangladesh, Dubai, I've been everywhere to play cricket.

"I was born with clubfoot. I had lots of operations when I was a kid. You can only really tell when I walk barefoot. I've got a really short achilles heel. I walk slightly on my tip toes."

And when asked what he'd miss the most while inside the Love Island villa, Hugo said it would be his sport, especially while the Euro 2020 tournament is on.

"Football!" he said, adding: "I'm missing a summer of sport. There is a load of cricket happening, and cricket is my main sport."

Speaking about his work, he added: "I teach secondary school PE. Absolutely love my job. I love all my sports.

"It's great to be able to pass on that enthusiasm to be physically active to the younger generation and hopefully they feel the same about me teaching them."

Hugo is one of the original boys in the Love Island 2021 line-up and following the first episode is now coupled with Sharon Gaffka.

The pair took part in a game of dares last night that saw the islanders get to know one another, but will heads be turned tonight following the late arrival of Chloe Burrows? You can read more about this here.
