Love Island's Greg secretly left the villa to attend grandmother's funeral

Love Island's Greg O'Shea secretly left the villa to attend his grandmother's funeral.

The 24-year-old jetted back to Dublin, Ireland on Monday before immediately returning to the ITV2 show's villa in Majorca.

Greg joined the show mid-way through the series earlier this month and is currently coupled up with Amber Gill.

His dad Niall O'Shea spoke to Limerick Live 95 and said: "Greg is a very good family man and his mother wanted to make sure he was there because himself and his Nan got on well."

In a statement the family told how Greg's nan, Monica Ho from Limerick, "passed away peacefully on July 19, in the care of Talbot Lodge Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family" just days after he entered to reality show.

ITV have confirmed that Greg was allowed to leave the programme for the family funeral.

A spokesperson said: "Owing to a bereavement, at the wishes of his family, Greg was away from the villa for a day to attend a funeral.

Greg has since returned to the villa (ITV)

"Everyone at Love Island extends their sympathies to Greg and his family and we have since welcomed him back to the villa."

The rugby player has become a Love Island fan favourite having swept beauty therapist Amber off her feet following her failed romance with Michael Griffths.
