Love Island's Gemma Owen spotted at dressage competition ahead of the new series

Love Island ’s Gemma Owen has revealed that she has won a dressage competition ahead of the new winter series of the hit show starting.

The TV personality, who was the runner up on last year’s ITV dating show alongside Luca Bish, took to her dedicated sporting Instagram account on Sunday afternoon to share the happy news.

Sharing a photo where she rode Sirius Black, her 17-year-old Stedinger gelding, and dressed smartly in her fitted black hunt coat, white leggings and long black boots, she revealed that she was ‘pleased’ with the results from the two-day competition.

The reality star is said to have placed 6th out of 23 riders on Friday with a score of 69.3% while competing at Vale View Equestrian in Leicestershire.

But, she took part in another class yesterday where she placed first with a score of 70.2 in the Prix St George.

Photos captured at the event show the 19-year-old riding her horse as she trotted around the arena.

One video showed the horse-riding expert performing an extended canter, and in separate footage she is impressing judges with specialist moves - including a collected trot, volte and half-pass.

The teenager was also snapped sitting in the stands aside mum Louise Bonsall, 41, watching the competition.

An onlooker said: "She came sixth place yesterday out of 23 riders.

"But today she smashed it and won the Prix St George.

"She seemed relaxed and happy - I think she was having a good time."

Gemma, who is the daughter of former England, Liverpool and Real Madrid striker Michael Owen, came second in the ITV reality show last summer.

In November she split from Brighton fishmonger, Luca Bish, who was her Love Island co-runner.

The couple lost out on the top spot to Turkish soap star Ekin-Su Cuculoglu and business owner, Davide Sanclimenti.

The winter series, filmed in South Africa, is due to start tomorrow, with new presenter Maya Jama taking over from Laura Whitmore.
