Love Island's Dr Alex says he was fifth member of X Factor group but got axed as he couldn't sing

Love Island star Dr Alex George has joked he was the fifth member of Celebrity X Factor group The Islanders, but was axed because he couldn't sing.

The medic, who starred in the 2018 show, had been lined to perform alongside his co-stars Samira Mighty , Wes Nelson , Eyal Booker and Zara McDermott .

However, Alex laughed that he didn't stand a chance as he couldn't hit the right notes.

In a post on Instagram , Alex shared a snap of himself posing with his pal Samira and revealed he was nearly part of their pop stardom dream.

He wrote: "I am SO proud of Samira and the others going on The X Factor...

"I was going to be the fifth member of the group but apparently you do have to be able to sing."

Alex went on to chat with X factor star Samira for his YouTube channel and she revealed she had previously auditioned for the show when she was a kid.

She explained: "I auditioned for the show when I was 15...

"I waited 15 hours in the queue, with no food, and I got through first two rounds and didn't get through the rest and I was crushed - I was 15."
