Love Island's Dr Alex jokes he's returned to villa in a wig as fans compare him to Maura

We've had our share of comparisons of Love Island stars over the years, but we reckon this one tops the list.

Some fans have noticed that new Islander Maura Higgins looks VERY similar to former star Dr Alex George .

And Dr Alex surprisingly agrees with the strange comparison.

Sharing a tweet of a make-up free Maura and himself on Instagram , he jokingly commented: "Things didn’t go too well for me last year so I thought I would switch things up and have another go.

He quipped: "P.s wig ambassador deets soon come."

Other Islanders flocked to the comments in hysterics, with 2017's Montana Brown remarking: "THIS IS GOLD."

Meanwhile Rosie Williams , who was on the same series as Alex and coupled up with Adam Collard , commented: "Brilliant!"

Another wrote: "Knew I fancied her for some reason."

One fan joked: "I wondered why she kept shouting 'oh hell'."

What havoc will Maura wreak tonight? (ITV/REX)

"OMG," another wrote.

Maura's appearance in the villa has sparked floods of drama - not least due to her ruthless pursuit of Tommy Fury.

This led to a screaming match between Tommy and an infuriated Molly-Mae Hague, who was not happy his head had been turned so quickly.

The ring girl will continue to step on toes tonight - will she wreak as much chaos this evening?

*Love Island airs tonight at 9pm on ITV2
