Love Island's Demi Jones shows fans painful hole in her neck after cancer surgery

Love Island’s Demi Jones has revealed to fans a “painful” hole in her neck following cancer surgery.

The 22-year-old reality TV star is recovering in hospital as she bravely battles the disease.

Demi, who starred in the 2020 version of the hit ITV show, underwent thyroidectomy surgery this week.

And in a post to 1.2million Instagram fans, social media influencer Demi revealed she was feeling “surprisingly better” despite the invasive operation.

“I just thought I'd update you as I'm finally awake and just had my lunch,” said Demi in a video from her hospital bed.

"So I've had my full thyroidectomy. You can see the tube coming out of my neck there, which is probably the most painful thing about it.

"It goes to this drain here, which takes up all the blood.

"I feel surprisingly better this time. I don't know whether that's because I've been through it and knew what to expect.

Pointing to the hole in her neck, Demi added: “This thing here [the hole in her neck] is just really painful."

"The surgeon told me that over the past few weeks there's been a significant increase in the number of young girls getting checked at the department.

"He thinks it's because of me, which is absolutely amazing. So, make sure you're getting your lumps checked."

Demi was diagnosed with thyroid cancer after finding mystery lumps in her neck earlier this year.

And she revealed to her loyal supporters that nurses at the hospital struggled to wake her up following her operation.

“I’ve just woken up,” she said. “Pain is so much worse this time. I’ve been asleep for hours, nurses struggled to wake me up.”

Before adding: “Thank you for everyone’s kind messages.”

Demi had already had an initial operation to remove the golf-ball size tumour in her neck, which left her with a two-inch scar.

But her most recent operation was to remove her entire thyroid as doctor’s work hard to help her.

Demi revealed her cancer diagnosis on social media before telling her family first, a decision which she now regrets.

Speaking on the Zeze Mills Show, Demi admitted: "When I first found out it could be cancerous, I was in shock and I was crying because I went on social media, and I shouldn’t have done that because I hadn’t even told my family yet.

"I don’t even know why, I can’t even tell you because my head was scrambled and I was like 'Oh my God, guys!'"
