Love Island's Dani Dyer wept as she lost BBC Our Girl part after 'car-crash audition'

Dani Dyer has revealed she wept during a car-crash audition for the lead role in BBC hit Our Girl.

The Love Island winner, 24, said her nerves got the better of her and she was devastated when Corrie actress Michelle Keegan, 32, landed the part of soldier Georgie Lane in 2015.

The show would have been her big break and she did indie films before finding fame on the ITV2 dating show in 2018.

Dani said: “I cried in the room. I was like, ‘I don’t know what I’m doing’.

"I was running an hour late and sweating. The nerves get on top of you.

“It is just this authority looking at you and you want this role so bad.”

Dani, whose dad Danny, 42, plays Mick Carter in EastEnders, added that a casting boss got her flustered.

She said: “The speech we had to prepare was deep but she wanted it quite comical. I tried and I just cried.”

Michelle joined Our Girl after EastEnders actress Lacey Turner, 32, left.

The current series will be her last. Dani won Love Island with Jack Fincham, 28, but their romance fizzled out.

She reunited with former flame Sammy Kimmence – but split with him this month.

She told Made In Chelsea’s Jamie Laing and Francis Boulle on the Private Parts podcast: “When I love someone, I love them. I love them or hate them. I am all or nothing. But I don’t like to go into new relationships bitter.”
