Curtis Pritchard has faced criticism online after he revealed he compares Love Island’s female contestants to dogs and “a second-hand car” in a forthcoming stand-up set.

The reality TV star, who appeared on Love Island in 2019, is taking part in Channel 4’s Stand Up and Deliver charity broadcast.

Love Island is in [the routine], absolutely,” he says, according to The Sun. “There was lots of comedy elements in that. Comedy’s meant to be edgy, pushing the boundaries and at the end of the day, it’s meant to be just good fun and enjoyment for everyone that’s going to listen.”

In the episode, he apparently jokes that girls on the ITV2 dating show are like second hand cars, commenting: “You’ve got all these different shapes and sizes in front of you, take it for a spin, take it for a test drive and if you don’t like it, you send it back.”

In the preview of his comedy routine, Pritchard likened the women on Love Island to dogs, and compared his time on the show to when he previously worked in a kennel.

Pritchard’s comments have been met with a backlash on Twitter, with people decrying his comments as “misogynistic” and “sexist”.

“The way Curtis Pritchard talks to/about women is disgusting,” wrote one person. “Don’t understand how anyone could like him.”

Is being misogynistic a form of stand-up or are you just not funny?” wrote someone else.

“Good to see Curtis Pritchard thinks referring to women as ‘dogs on heat’ and ‘second hand cars’ is the epitome of ‘edgy and boundary pushing comedy’ ...What a tool!” wrote another Twitter user.

The Independent has contacted Pritchard’s representative for comment.

Pritchard can currently be seen in the new series ofCelebs Go Dating: The Mansion.

During his time on Love Island, he began dating fellow contestant Maura Higgins, but the couple separated last March.
