Love Island's Curtis jets to Ireland to meet Maura's family - after awkward chat with her mum

Love Island's Curtis Pritchard is off to another Ireland to meet Maura Higgins' family - and no doubt he'll be hoping to make a better impression than last time.

The ballroom dancer is on his way to Ireland with the grid girl, where they'll be filmed meeting her extended family for this Sunday's special Reunion episode.

Maura and Curtis only jetted home from Majorca already, but there was barely time for them to stick a wash on before they had to catch another flight.

Curtis shared a snap of them cosying up on board their plane, captioning it: "Still can't believe we are out of the villa! Loving this journey with @maurahiggins and being in Ireland to meet her family and friends! Who's excited for aftersun this Sunday? #loveisland ."

It comes after Maura's mum damned him with faint praise when she met him in the villa last Sunday when the finalists' relatives came in to meet their partners.

Maura was taken aback when her firm-talking mammy awkwardly paused when asked what she thought of Curtis.

"Yeah... he's nice," she said insipidly.

"There's obviously something you see in him," she added.

And it didn't fare much better from the Pritchard family, with Curtis' mum Debi repeatedly getting Maura's name wrong and calling her Moira.

She was also seen 'bum-shaming' her son's partner by pointing to Maura's kiss tattoo while her back was turned.

Curtis dad then came under fire for joking about Maura's Irish accent.

But Curtis' brother AJ Pritchard defended his parents, insisting they'd meant no offence.

"My mum's a personal trainer, she probably wanted to see how toned it was," said the Strictly Come Dancing professional on 'bum-gate'.

AJ also said he believes Curtis and Maura have a great chance of making their relationship work in the real world, mainly because their personalities compliment each other as "she has her fiery side, but she’s also quite innocent".

Curtis is the one that can 'say no' to Maura, which will help them moving forward, he added.
