Love Island’s Chris Hughes insists he's happier without six-pack after lockdown weight gain

Former Love Island star Chris Hughes has revealed he has struggled with his weight during lockdown.

But the popular reality TV star says he's happier without the solid abs that helped him grab viewers' attention.

The farmer-turned-influencer has confessed to The Sun that there are sometimes days where he just wants to eat.

And the 28-year-old, who bared his chest on TV once again last month as he took on an ice bath live on ITV Racing, says his new lack of body definition isn't an issue.

The star admits he was a little apprehensive about going shirtless again at first after losing a tipping competition against fellow pundit Oli Bell.

He said: "When I did that ice bath challenge I was like, ‘God, my body does not look like it did four years ago in Love Island ’.

"But I’m happy in my own skin. It doesn’t make me any less happy with what I am now."

The racing pundit says he wasn't your stereotypical Love Island contestant as he doesn't enjoy working out.

Instead, he says he's more likely to pile in the gym sessions a month before a holiday to try to get in shape.

But even then, he said he only really goes for "about 20 minutes" before leaving again.

He also revealed that lockdown has "not been easy" since his split with former Little Mix member Jesy Nelson last April.

And he partly blamed their break-up after 15 months on the pair's celebrity status.

He said: "If you’re both doing two different things within an industry it makes it harder to see each other at times.

"You might have a bond with somebody, so you can’t turn them down on the basis of whether they’re in the public eye or not because they could be the one for you."

But he's not prepared to give up on the dating world just yet.

He's recently teamed up with dating app called happn and admitted he's "open to anything really".
