Love Island's bizarre day one couplings and the scandals that split them

Tonight will see one of four couples declared the winner of Love Island 2019, with Amber Gill and Greg O'Shea or Molly Hague and Tommy Fury favourites to win.

But the final four - which also includes Curtis Pritchard and Maura Higgins along with Ovie Soko and India Reynolds - bears no resemblance to the bizarre couplings that kicked off the fifth series.

Here's a look back at the insane way it all started...

Amy Hart and Anton Danyluk

Air hostess Amy picked the Scottish hunk when he was the first boy to enter the villa.

But he almost immediately told her he was keen to get to know Lucie Donlan. Then before he knew it, Curtis Pritchard stole Amy from under his nose and named her his 'half-girlfriend'.

Meanwhile, Anton continued to get pied, first by Lucie, then newcomer Molly-Mae, until finally meeting Belle Hassan when the girls moved out to Casa Amor.

For Amy, the trip proved to be fatal for her time on the show.

Despite returning ready to drop to L-bomb on Curtis, he admitted his head had been turned by Jourdan Raine and promptly dumped her.

The devastated star then left the villa, unable to watch him crack on with current squeeze, Maura Higgins.

Amber Gill and Callum MacLeod

Amber made no secret of the fact Callum didn't float her boat and branded him 'boring' before choosing to recouple as a friend with Anton - thus costing Callum his place in the villa.

Amber eventually gave into the charms of firefighter Michael Griffiths but was left heartbroken when she returned from Casa Amor to find he'd recoupled with Joanna Chimonides.

She and Greg are favourites to win (ITV)

The devastated beautician spent the  next couple of weeks down in the dumps until Greg O'Shea arrived and swept her off her feet - much to Michael's annoyance.

He'd refused to leave the island with Joanna when she was dumped days earlier - despite insisting he had no feelings for Amber.

But as soon as she was gone, he tried to crack on with his ex until she chose Greg over him at a dramatic recoupling.

Lucie Donlan and Michael Griffiths

Michael was initially coupled with Lucie, but she dumped him as soon as Joe Garratt walked into the villa.

He was left on the subs bench with Yewande and they formed a friendship couple before he started making moves on Amber.

Yewande, meanwhile, was hoping Curtis would pick her. And when he went for Amy, she turned her attentions to newcomer Danny Williams.

That also wasn't to be, with Danny dumping her for Arabella Chi, ending her time in the villa.

As for Lucie, she and Joe were separated when he was dumped from the villa, and she went on to confess her feeling for best mate, Tommy Fury.

Anna Vakili and Sherif Larne

None of the boys managed to turn Anna's head on day one, leaving her coupled with Sherif by default.

She was never quite sure if he was actually into her or not, but it all became irrelevant when he was booted out of the villa for breaking Love Island rules just nine days in.

Rumours flew about the cause of his removal, but Sherif later claimed he'd accidentally kicked Molly-Mae in the groin and used an offensive term - 'c***-punt' - to describe it.

Meanwhile, Anna wasted no time getting close to newbie Jordan Hames, but dumped him after Casa Amor for basketballer Ovie Soko.

That pairing only lasted until the next recoupling though. Flattered that Jordan had stayed single in Casa Amor, she returned to him and set Ovie free.

But it didn't end well. With just days to go to the final, Jordan decided to crack on with Ovie's partner, India Reynolds, without telling Anna, who he's recently asked to be his girlfriend.

She went nuclear and the couple found themselves in the bottom two and were dumped from the island.
