Love Island's Amber Gill reveals 'mental struggle' ahead of Celebrity SAS appearance

Former Love Island contestant Amber Gill has spoken of her 'mental struggle' as she prepares to take part in this year's Celebrity SAS : Who Dares Wins series.

The 25-year-old, who won the dating show alongside Greg O'Shea in 2019 is well known for her honesty, which has again proven to be the case when discussing her state of mind.

The Newcastle-born star claims fame and social media can often get the better of her and revealed the motivation behind her forthcoming television role.

She told OK!: "I wanted to prove to myself because I don't think I've ever been tested. My job is relatively nice to do and so I wanted to prove I was resilient.

"Before I went in, I wasn't in a very good mental headspace and that was the tipping scale on whether I should do it or not. I’m so glad I did because it kick-started me getting into a better headspace."

She continued: "I believe in myself to the very end to do everything, but before this experience, I really lost that and I lost my way a little bit, so I was in two minds whether to do it or not, but then I did it, and when I came out of the other side, I was completely different."

Amber put her recent struggles down to 'external validation', stating 'you want people to like you (on social media)' and it 'all got a bit much'.

Earlier this week, meanwhile, she hit out at former co-star Brett Staniland after he took to the opportunity to poke fun at her enviable figure during an Instagram Q&A session.

He seemingly joked: "When you try and do backstroke does your BBL flip you around like a life jacket."

In response, Amber playfully accused Brett of accidentally posting the question from his main Instagram account instead of his burner account.

Alongside a snap of her in the gym, Amber posted Brett's reply with her response which read: "Did you forget to use your burner account???"

She went on to rib Brett, who is an advocate for sustainable fashion, adding: "I'm going to bulk order from a fast fashion brand and wear it all once now you said that you little t***."

The new series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins starts on Sunday (September 4) at 9pm on Channel 4. Episodes will be available for catch up through streaming service All4.
