Love Island's Amber Gill addresses secret connection with Brad after controversial tweet

Love Island star Amber Gill has shared her secret connection with Geordie islander, Brad McClelland.

As the seventh season of the hit ITV2 dating show started off with a bang last week, 2019 champion Amber was left in disbelief when she saw Brad in this year’s line-up.

The 23-year-old, who won the show with Irish hunk Greg O’Shea two years ago, took to Twitter to share a cryptic tweet about Brad after he had been seeing a close friend of hers.

“Brad was speaking to one of my friends at some point. But let’s keep that between me you. Love u bye,” she teased with her fans.

However, the model and influencer faced a backlash from her Twitter followers, who accused her of stirring up drama, prompting her to delete the tweet.

Shannon Singh and Amber Gill were guests on the Captial FM's Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp (@global)

Now, Amber had addressed the controversy, admitting that she didn’t want to fall out with her close friend over the tweet, and decided to delete it straight away to avoid any more speculation.

During an interview with Capital FM’s Roman Kemp and Sonny Jay, Amber was quizzed on why she tweeted about Brad.

A listener asked: “You tweeted and deleted that your friend was speaking to Brad before he went into the villa. What was the situation there?”

To which Amber awkwardly replied: “Oh no! I can’t say anything but there’s a connection somewhere.

“He’s obviously from ten minutes down the road, so somebody that I know was speaking to him but they weren’t dating. I’ve been made aware that it wasn’t a dating kind of thing.

“Also, I don’t want to lose my friendship so that’s all I can say on the matter.”

Amber’s confession comes after the Love Island champion threw support behind current islander Chloe Burrows after she was targeted with death threats following recent episodes.

Chloe is unaware of the abuse while she remains on the show, but her family have spoken out over death threats and trolling.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain on Monday, Amber recalled the abuse she received during her time on the show which she remained unaware of by the time she had left the villa.

Sharing her thoughts on the trolls themselves, Amber suggested: “I think they are probably in a negative headspace themselves, and it's a desperate cry for help kind of thing.

“They get far too invested in a show that is just for entertainment purposes."

“I'm just glad she doesn't know what is happening at the minute. She's protected from it,” she added about Chloe.
