Love Island's Amber Davies says 'jobs are slim' for reality TV stars

A former Love Island contestant has said there's a lack of work available for the stars of reality TV.

Amber Davies, from Denbigh, appeared on ITV's Lorraine to talk about the new series of Love Island, which starts on Monday night, and the prospects that face islanders when they leave.

The 22-year-old, who won the show with Kem Cetinay, is currently starring in the the West End musical 9 to 5.

Talking on Lorraine, she said: "You do sign up for it yourself. You know what you're signing up for. Nobody's holding a gun to your head."

When Lorraine asked if there was an element of naivete going into reality shows Amber replied: "Definitely. And I think it looks like we're living the dream but it's really not at times.

"Jobs are really slim for reality stars at the minute."

She said she was "excited" about this year's contestants as "there are a lot of bigger personalities."

One of this year's contestants has already been the topic of debate. Anna Vakili has been the subject of media attention for her body image.

"She's a normal-sized girl. She's beautiful and she doesn't take herself too seriously – that's why I like her," Amber explained.

One of this year's islanders, Tommy Fury, has already caught the attention of Amber.

She said: "I think he's good looking and I just think they've all got a lot of sass this year."

The reality TV winner added that "it's inevitable" for this year's line-up to be in the pursuit of fame as "they know what they're going in there to do".

"They're signing up for fame, but we didn't," she added.

Callum MacLeod is this year's Welsh Love Island contestant and the 28-year-old will enter the Love Island villa with 11 other hopefuls.

Love Island is back on Monday night at 9pm on ITV2.
