Love Island's Afia shares why Michael Owen is never mentioned in the show

Love Island bombshell Afia has lifted the lid about all things Michael Owen after being axed from the villa.

Afia was the first Islander to be given the boot, days after Liam Llewellyn chose to leave. The 25-year-old's quest for love continues, she said as she left the villa last week.

Many watching at home have been keen to see fellow Love Islander Gemma reveal who her dad is - former Liverpool and England footballer Michael Owen.

As yet, fans of the show have not seen the ex-professional footballer mentioned. And Afia has revealed all about why this is.

During a Q&A on her Instagram stories earlier this week, one fan asked Afia: "Do they know who Gemma's dad is?". Afia replied: "If people do know, I did know before I went in because I watched her VT.

"But if people do know, they don’t care… nobody really cares. I don’t know who he is, I know he’s a football guy, it was never, ever spoken about in my presence."

Gemma did mention her dad once on the show, during its first week of airing. The 19-year-old international dressage rider spoke to Luca Bish about her family, including telling him all about the things her famous dad likes.

She told Luca that she felt that her dad would get on well with him because they're both sporty - however, she managed to navigate the conversation without spilling the beans on her dad's name.

Without knowing that Gemma's dad was a footballing legend, Luca thought that his football knowledge might trump Michael's. He said: "I enjoy playing football. I know what I'm talking about with football as well. Let's see if he knows what he's talking about."

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and the ITV Hub
