Love Island's Adam Collard fuels backlash against producers over 'alarming' past on show

Before he's even been seen on screen, Adam Collard has fuelled a Love Island backlash as viewers hit out at ITV bosses for letting him come back, with them and a women's charity raising serious concerns about past his behaviour.

Adam, 26, was first a contestant on Love Island back in 2018, with him earning a reputation as bit of a heartbreaker, at the very least, as he turned his attention to a number of different girls in the villa. He also provided that year's series with it's biggest mystery as fans were left asking 'What did Adam do?' after seeing a clip of love interest Rosie Williams shouting at him.

As tempers flared, Rosie was left upset by the way she'd been treated by Adam, but the Newcastle personal trainer showed no regret and questioned her version of events, accusing her of 'insecure behaviour.'

His actions being deemed "emotionally abusive,' by a leading women's charity. Women’s Aid’s Katie Ghose said there were “clear warning signs” in Adam’s behaviour and called it “unacceptable”. Speaking at the time, she said: “A partner questioning your memory, trivialising thoughts or feelings and turning things around to blame you can be part of a pattern of emotional abuse.”

And, after Adam was confirmed as the new series' latest bombshell at the end of Sunday night's episode, many viewers expressed their concerns, arguing there was no way he should be allowed to return. Referencing Women's Aid's stance from 2018, one appalled Twitter user blasted: "Not Love Island proving to us once again again that misogyny PAYS by bringing back Adam Collard. The man so problematic that Women’s Aid had to write a statement on his abusive behaviour the last time he was on national tv.."

Taking the same view, another tweeted: "when season 4 aired, Women’s Aid had to write a whole statement on how to spot signs of domestic abuse because of Adam Collard… and now he’s coming back to the villa?? seriously." A third remarked?: "Errrrrrm wasn’t Adam Collard called out by Women’s Aid ??? It’s cool though you put him back in and then say you’re focused on the islander’s mental health and let him directly benefit further"
