Love Island reunion show blasted by viewers as being 'anticlimactic' and 'awkward'

After the most recent series of Love Island ended in August, it was labelled as 'possibly the worst ever' by disgruntled viewers.

Those same viewers were desperate for a bit of drama in the now-traditional reunion show, with the likes of Faye and Teddy, Toby and Chloe and everyone's favourite Scot Shannon (remember her?!) all lined up.

But despite several of the stars getting in savage digs, not all viewers were struck on the show.

Disgruntled fans took to Twitter to voice their displeasure at the "anticlimactic" and "awkward" events on show on Sunday night.

One penned: "My love island tweets don’t even need to remain up, that reunion was the most anticlimactic piece of Reality television I have EVER experienced lmaooooo. #LoveIsland"

Another seemingly agreed, writing: "This reunion is actually so anticlimactic no one is giving what needs to be given. Where's the drama? #LoveIsland"

And a third pointed out their disappointment that there wasn't any fireworks between Millie Court and Lillie Haynes following Liam Reardon's Casa Amor antics. They wrote: "Was that it?? The Liam/Millie/Lillie convo was anticlimactic to say the least. #LoveIsland"

The trio's own personal reunion delivered an awkward moment as one half of the winning couple, Millie, delivered a withering putdown in a chat including former love rival Lillie.

Host Laura Whitmore had suggested that Millie and partner Liam go on a double date with Lillie and Casa Amor's Jack Barlow.

When Laura suggested that they all have a few shots if they went out, Liam said “yeah” while laughing with Millie.

“Maybe a few tequila shots we’ll get there,” laughed Lillie.

A deadpan Millie then said before laughing: “Or 100 [shots]”.

Lillie then commented: “That’s a bit far!”, while Millie carried on laughing.

Many other fans picked up on several awkward moments throughout the show, with some insisting it appeared as though the islanders didn't want to be there.

One fan joked: "my god the love island reunion is so awkward I have second hand embarrassment."

And another savagely said: "That really was a run down of how NOT to do a live show. Abysmal TV. It was falling apart at every angle. And so so awkward. Oh dear."

One part of the show that disappointed fans was Jake Cornish's non-appearance. The water engineer sensationally left the villa when he and former flame Liberty Poole broke off their relationship.

But Jake sat out of the reunion after Laura revealed at the star of the show: "So, sadly Jake can't be with us this evening as he isn't feeling very well."

She added: "But get well soon and sending you lots of love."
