Love Island receives record 24,000 Ofcom complaints following Faye’s rant at Teddy

Nearly 25,000 Love Island viewers complained to Ofcom following Faye Winter’s explosive rant at Teddy Soares.

Friday’s episode (6 August) of the dating show saw Faye shout repeatedly at Teddy, who she was coupled with, after a game showed footage of him admitting to being sexually attracted to another islander while in Casa Amor.

Faye claimed that she had incorrectly believed Teddy was “a f***ing saint” in Casa Amor, and now believed him to be “a f***ing liar” and a “two-faced p***k”.

The scene was widely criticised on social media, with many viewers accusing Faye of overreacting and being “disrespectful” to Teddy.

It has now been revealed that the episode garnered 24,763 complaints to Ofcom.

An Ofcom spokesperson told The Irish Mirror: “We’ve received a high volume of complaints about last week’s Love Island, which is consistent with a trend of growing complaints about high-profile TV shows.

“We are carefully assessing the complaints we’ve received, before deciding whether or not to investigate.”

This smashes the record previously set by Love Island, after more than 5,000 complaints were made across the previous week (28 July-2 August).

These complaints also largely related to Faye and Teddy, but this time for the infamous “misleading” Casa Amor postcard.

The Independent has contacted ITV for comment.

During Tuesday’s episode (10 August) of Love Island, Faye apologised to Teddy, with the pair deciding to move forward with their relationship after previously calling it quits.

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2
