Love Island 'proposal' riddle as Millie and Liam are crowned winners

It's been a journey to say the least for Liam Reardon and Millie Court but after eight weeks the pair emerged as the winners of the 2021 series of Love Island.

Welsh bricklayer Liam and fashion buyer's administrator Millie, from Essex, looked unlikely to see the experience through after the biggest of blips.

Liam 'grafted' his way back to Millie's affections after he cheated on her during the Casa Amor lads' holiday.

Millie ditched him when Lillie came into the main villa and announced what had been going on.

They agreed to take it slowly as Liam proved to his 'Millie Moo' how much she meant to him and that he could be trusted.

Recently Liam dropped the 'L' bomb as Millie showed off her musical talent playing the keyboard.

And the pair opened up about their growing relationship during their final date on the ITV2 dating contest with Liam saying: "There is something I want to tell you. When you first came to the villa I fell in love with your smile, I love seeing you smile.

"Then I fell in love with your piercing blue eyes, I could look into them all day. And then your laugh, I could listen to you laugh all day.

"I do love you," Liam, 22, added, with Millie, 24, responding: "I’ve definitely fallen in love with you."

The couple still hadn't officially declared themselves 'official' despite being coupled-up for weeks in Mallorca.

So when pressed on the subject by host Laura Whitmore during the final, Liam officially asked Millie to be his girlfriend.

However some confused fans, thinking they were already boyfriend and girlfriend, thought he was popping another question.

"Am I hallucinating or did Liam just propose?" asked one fan on Twitter.

"Sorry did Liam just propose?" asked another.

And another, on realising that he hadn't asked her to marry him, said: "That was boring, if Liam really wanted to shake things up he should have proposed. This is the final. Go big and ridiculous or go home."

"I'm a bit emotional now," said Laura about the surprise moment.
