Love Island Michael Griffiths' family issue statement after dumping Amber

The family of Love Island contestant Michael Griffiths have issued a statement following Tuesday night's dramatic recoupling.

Michael, a firefighter from Liverpool, caused a social media frenzy when he dumped long-time partner Amber Gill for new girl Joanna Chimonides.

Viewers tuned in last night to see the fallout from brutal recoupling, with Michael and Amber coming to loggerheads.

Michael admitted that he was a “little surprised” Amber had returned from Casa Amor on her own.

He said: "There were situations where I thought she wasn’t that into me… I hadn’t been staying true to myself, biting my tongue in situations I wouldn’t usually bite my tongue in and overlooking things I wouldn’t usually overlook.

"I’ve been through that situation before and that’s why things haven’t worked out, so why would I do it now?"

However, many viewers were shocked at Michael's decision, with some saying he handled the situation "completely wrong".

After a backlash of comments following the recoupling, Michael's family took to Twitter to issue this statement.

They said: "Some thoughts: Like it or not, Michael followed his heart, he confronted Amber several times for being childish.

"It wasn’t behind her back Anna needs to mind her own business #bye..."

On Wednesday night, Michael's family added: "Takeaways from tonight: It’s b***** hard running an account for the UK’s most hated man.
